Amalia Project

AMALIA with schools @ the Ocean Open Day 2018

The School of Tourism and Maritime Technologies received several classes of highschool students for the yearly activities of the Open Ocean Day 2018, and AMALIA said present when asked to bring knowledge to these fine young students.

Today high school students learned about seaweed bioactives and circular economy with our researchers Sara Novais and Rafael Félix, and went hands-on and used invasive seaweeds to extract antioxidants and learned about their potential use in the industry.

Other classes focused their Ocean Open Day activities on exotic seaweed species, their problematic, and how to identify  them with our researchers Teresa Mouga, João Neto, Rafael Félix and Marco Lemos. Knowing the problem and to identify their appearance is a valuable tool to protect the environment!
